Wisconsin segment length

[edit]

It should be very clear that the FHWA has an error in their webpage for the length of the segment of I-90 within Wisconsin. Continuing to ignore this error and no make the appropriate correction is not helpful.

  1. The I-39/I-90 overlap in Wisconsin uses I-90's mileposts and continues its exit number sequence. There is an exit 185 near the border, which would not be possible if I-90 were only 108 miles in length.
    • Those mileposts and exit numbers increase in the southbound direction; if they corresponded to I-39, they'd increase in the opposite direction.
    • I-90 in the state predates the designation of I-39 by decades, and the exit numbers and mileposts likewise predate I-39 in Wisconsin.
  2. WisDOT's own log gives the full length in their state, which is consistent with the mileposts and exit numbers.
  3. The FHWA length corresponds to the length of I-90 or I-90/I-94 up to the point where I-39 joins in. It is only a reasonable conclusion that for some reason, FHWA has omitted the length of I-39/I-90(/I-94) from the length of I-90 in the state.

For these reasons, I have changed the length of the Wisconsin section in the table and updated the overall total. The WisDOT log has been cited. Should FHWA actually correct their log, we can make any minor corrections based on any variance in computing the length at that time and change the footnotes accordingly.
